What are the steps involved in obtaining a LCCN?

After purchasing the Library of Congress Control Number and completing the publishing process, our team will obtain your unique LCCN and insert the number into your publication. When your LCCN is obtained, you will receive a confirmation e-mail containing the specific number assigned to your book.

Additionally, we will send a printed copy of your book directly to the Library of Congress as required by law, where your book information will be catalogued for official library use and reference at more the 5,000 libraries located throughout the United States.

Will my book actually be shelved in the Library of Congress in Washington, D.C.?

While the Library of Congress requires that publishers send them a finished, physical copy of books registering for a PCN, we cannot guarantee nor do we receive confirmation whether or not a book is physically shelved in the library. It is entirely up the reviewing committee to decide to shelve a book.

Where will my LCCN appear in my book?

Your book will feature the LCCN on the copyright page.

Are there any special requirements?

Yes, your book must be at least 52 pages or more to qualify to receive a LCCN, unless it is a children's literature or genealogy book, in which case it can be less than 52 pages. Also, the number must be printed in the book. So if your book is already available, you must go through the resubmission process in order to add the LCCN to the copyright page in your book.

How long does it take to complete the LCCN registration?

Receiving your distinct LCCN from the Library of Congress requires five business days after date of purchase.
