How can I track my royalties and sales?

Book sales are reported on the quarterly statements distributed with royalty checks. Currently, the sales-tracking function of our Web site is under construction and does not reflect book sales mid-quarter, but we plan to complete this the near future.

When am I paid my royalties?

We pay the royalties for your book sales on a quarterly basis. When your royalty earnings reach $20.00, royalty payments will be distributed. We will hold your royalties until the balance due is $20.00 or more. The quarterly schedule is as follows:

Quarter

Date Range

Statements Mailed Out

1st Quarter

Jan 1 – March 31

Late May/Early June

2nd Quarter

Apr 1 – June 30

Late Aug/Early Sept

3rd Quarter

July 1 – Sept 30

Late Nov/Early Dec

4th Quarter

Oct 1 – Dec 31

Late Feb/Early March

Each quarter, you are paid for the books sold and shipped in the given time frame. If a book was purchased online March 30th, but not actually printed and shipped until April 2nd, then you would be paid in the 2nd quarter, not the 1st, since the book didn't ship until the 2nd quarter.

You will only be paid once for the original book sale. For instance, should a book be resold in any kind of secondhand store, you will not earn a royalty on the purchase. Also, you earn a royalty when a retailer purchases your book for their store (when the book is printed), but not when the consumer actually purchases the book off the shelf.

What is the difference between a "retail sale" and a "CraigsPress.com sale"?

There are two different kinds of sales, and the difference depends on how/where the order is placed. When a book is sold through the CraigsPress.com Bookstore or our support team, it is considered a CraigsPress.com sale. A retail, or channel sale, occurs when the book is sold through any retailer other than CraigsPress.com, like Amazon or Borders. Of course, these two kinds of sales are only possible if a book has Channel Distribution. If not, only the CraigsPress.com sale is possible.

The reason these two different kinds of sales are important is because, although the selling price must be the same for both CraigsPress.com and retail sales, you will earn a different royalty amount depending on the sale type. You receive a much higher royalty payment when your book sells through CraigsPress, because we only make a very small percentage off each sale. Retailers, on the other hand, get 40 percent of the selling price, which is calculated into the cost/royalty price the author chooses during the DIY publishing process.
